I thought the lighting and the skin ideas were pretty interesting*
I've seen some of those techniques used before, even for environments, but I don;t know how typical it is. Although more and more guys are using 3-d software to nail in complex perspective shots.

Looks good, what was your inspiration for the legs? They seem like some sort of armor or am I mistaken?
I like it. I love the simple and effective buildings in the background but i would add an equivalently simple background to the left of him.
